چکیده

We explore the relationship between classical quasinormal mode frequencies and black hole quantum mechanics in 2+1 dimensions. Following a suggestion of Hod, we identify the real part of the quasinormal frequencies with the fundamental quanta of black hole mass and angular momentum. We find that this identification leads to the correct quantum behavior of the asymptotic symmetry algebra, and thus of the dual conformal field theory. Finally, we suggest a further connection between quasinormal mode frequencies and the spectrum of a set of nearly degenerate ground states whose multiplicity may be responsible for the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. ∗[email protected]; on leave from Department of Mathematical Physics, University College Dublin, Ireland †[email protected][email protected]

Hawking Temperature from Quasi-normal Modes

A perturbed black hole has characteristic frequencies (quasi-normal modes). Here I apply a quantum measurement analysis of the quasinormal mode frequency in the limit of high damping. It turns out that a measurement of this mode necessarily adds noise to it. For a Schwarzschild black hole, this corresponds exactly to the Hawking temperature. The situation for other black holes is briefly discus...

Quantization of Higher Dimensional Linear Dilaton Black Hole Area/Entropy From Quasinormal Modes

The quantum spectra of area and entropy of higher dimensional linear dilaton black holes in various theories via the quasinormal modes method are studied. It is shown that quasinormal modes of these black holes can reveal themselves when a specific condition holds. Finally, we obtain that a higher dimensional linear dilaton black hole has equidistant area and entropy spectra, and both of them a...

Asymptotic quasinormal modes of a coupled scalar field in the Gibbons-Maeda dilaton spacetime

The study of quasinormal modes in a black hole background spacetime has a long history [1]-[19]. It is shown that their frequencies and damping times are entirely fixed by the black hole parameters and independent of the initial perturbations. Therefore, it is certain that quasinormal modes carry the characteristic information about a black hole and it can provide a new and direct way for astro...

Asymptotic Quasinormal Frequencies of Brane-Localized Black Hole

The asymptotic quasinormal frequencies of the brane-localized (4 + n)dimensional black hole are computed. Since the induced metric on the brane is not an exact vacuum solution of the Einstein equation defined on the brane, the real parts of the quasinormal frequencies ω do not approach to the wellknown value TH ln 3 but approach to TH ln kn, where kn is a number dependent on the extra dimension...

Quasinormal modes of stringy black holes

String theory is a promising candidate for a fundamental quantum theory of all interactions including Einstein gravity. Some solutions in string theory can be interpreted as black holes. Using the semi-analytic method and WKB method, the quasinormal modes(QNMs)of 1+1 dimensional black hole in string theory are studied. The QNMs of 1+3 dimensional black hole in string theory are also calculated th...
